Itinerary

Day 1 San Jose/Alajuela

 

Upon arrival in San Jose your trip leader and experienced driver will be waiting to accompany you from the Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) to the hotel for our welcome reception. Relax with a welcome drink and refreshments and get acquainted with your fellow travelers. Kevin and Andi will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Feel free to spend the rest of the day exploring the historic city of Alajuela, or catching up on some rest.

Day 2 Alajuela to La Fortuna​

 

After a complimentary breakfast we will leave for La Fortuna located at the base of the Arenal Volcano. Along the way we will stop at the Poás Volcano. Poás is one of Costa Rica´s most active volcanoes. It contains a green acid crater lake and during some of its frequent phreatic eruptions, water from the lake is ejected like a geyser.

Afterward we stop at the majestic La Paz waterfall for pictures, then for a leisurely lunch at the Los Colibries Restaurant located high above the canyon, overlooking waterfalls.

We make one last stop to marvel at the green iguanas that gather by the hundreds on the banks of the creek in the small town of Muelle, before arriving at La Fortuna.

Once you are settled in the rest of the evening is free to walk around the town, get some dinner, do a little shopping, or take a swim in the pool.

PoásVolcano

Surrounded by lush tropical rainforests, Poás Volcano in Costa Rica is not only one of Costa Rica’s most important protected areas but it is also one of the most visited tourist attractions. After a leisurely breakfast we will meet ourdriver, Sammy and drive the short distance to Poas. After viewing the teal blue lagoon in the crater, we will have time to visit the museum, interpretive center, and gift shop.

Day 3  La Fortuna

Awaken to the sounds of a tropical paradise with a view of the country’s most active volcano just outside your window. After a traditional breakfast prepared by a local chef you will be ready for the day’s adventures.

Zip lines at Los Lagos

Thrill to the sensation of flying over the top of the jungle canopy on this zip line adventure. This option is available to everyone, no skill level is needed. Before you go flying down the zip lines, your guides will teach you the proper techniques. Feel free to spend the rest of the day soaking in the pools at the Los Lagos Hot Springs Resort.

Horseback Ride to Arenal Volcano

Horseback riding is an organic way to view Costa Rica's most active volcano. Howler monkeys, iguanas and many bird species are frequently seen on the trail. On a clear day you can see the volcano in all of its glory. Then you will continue to ride another mile through the rainforest to Los Lirios Lake which is a great spot for birdwatching and wildlife observation. Feel free to spend the rest of the day soaking in the pools at the Los Lagos Hot Springs Resort.

Hot Springs Resort

Enjoy a full day at the Los Lagos Hot Springs Resort at the base of the Arenal Volcano. Spend the day soaking in the therapeutic waters of the hot springs, or take a leisurely stroll around the premises and visit these great amenities: Frog Farm - Crocodile Farm - Butterfly Gardens - Rainforest Ant Exhibit - Gift Shop, or dine in one of the resort's three Restaurants.

Day 4 La Fortuna to Monteverde

Depart La Fortuna to catch a morning boat ride; a quick and easy shortcut, across Lake Arenal.  The early morning sun glints off the hills of forested and pastured land that surrounds the lake. On a clear day the summit of the Arenal Volcano dominates the eastern horizon. 

Once we arrive in the quant town of Santa Elana, nestled into the lush cloudforests of Monteverde, lunch will be prepared for you at your hotel. Enjoy a relaxing evening reading in your hammock, shopping or sightseeing.

Boat Tour Across Lake Arenal

Catch the cool morning breezes on an open-air boat ride across Lake Arenal. The early morning sun glints off the hills of forested and pastured land that surrounds the lake. On a clear day the summit of Arenal volcano dominates the eastern horizon. A hot lunch will be prepared for you upon our arrival to the Monteverde cloudforest.

Day 5 Monteverde

Whether you’re into the flora and fauna of Costa Rica viewed from the jungle canopy, or have a taste for the laid-back culture, today is your day. After a complimentary breakfast, get ready to choose your adventure.

Skywalk Monteverde Cloudforest

During this 3-hour hiking tour you will explore the rainforest via Sky Walk suspension bridges. These sturdy bridges form a path through the rainforest canopy. Visitors come here to safely scale the heights and to see the birds and monkeys that live in the treetops.

Don Juan Coffee Tour

For the more laid-back traveler interested in the culture of Costa Rica, or for the coffee and chocolate connoisseur in all of us, visit a local coffee plantation. The Don Juan coffee and chocolate tour is a highly entertaining and interactive tour. You will get a chance to participate in the traditional processes used to create the amazing Costa Rican coffee all your friends begged you to bring back.

Day 6 Monteverde to Manuel Antonio

 

After breakfast we will leave the beautiful cloudforest of Monteverde and head for the sandy beaches of Manuel Antonio. Along the way we will stop for a traditional Costa Rican casado lunch at a locally owned restaurant. After lunch we will make a stop for photos and some shopping at the bridge that crosses the Tarcoles River near Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast. The river is famous for its abundance of crocodiles.

After lunch we will arrive at the coastal town of Manuel Antonio where you can fill your evening at your leisure or step out for a bit of the night life.

Tárcoles River Crocodiles

Get ready to be wowed from the safety of the bridge high above the Taroles River. The river is famous for its abundance of crocodiles. Try and count the number of crocs swimming just under the surface of the water or sunning themselves on the muddy shores.

Day 7  Manuel Antonio

 

Breakfast will be served, then you will be packed with a sack lunch for an exciting day at the Manuel Antonio National Park. You will be met at the gate by an English speaking guide who will take you through the park and end on the beach. The professional guide will point out flora and fauna you could never spot on your own, and with his spotting scope you can get a close up view and fabulous photos of sloths, monkeys, bats, insects and so much more.

Enjoy your sack lunch and a swim on the beautiful beaches of Manuel Antonio.
An optional trip to a nearby farmers market is a great way to sample some of Costa Rica’s best fruits and other delicacies.

Manuel Antonio National Park

A sack lunch will be provided for you and you will be met at the gates of the park by a professional guide. Your guide will teach you about the eco-system and culture of Costa Rica while pointing out sloths, monkeys, hummingbirds and many more native species of Costa Rican wildlife. Take breathtaking photos through a high-powered spotting scope, then stay as long as you like swimming in the beautiful ocean waters in the park or relaxing on the beach.

Day 8 Manuel Antonio

Today is a day to relax, read a good book on the beach, do some last minute shopping, perhaps get a massage. Or, continue to fuel the adrenaline junky within by taking surf lessons or parasailing the beaches of Manuel Antonio.

Get into the true Kendi spirit and take time to relax, refresh and revive.

Day 9 Manuel Antonio to Alajuela

 

Breakfast will be served on our last day in Manuel Antonio before we head back to Alejuela.

But the fun isn’t over yet. On the return trip we will make a stop at the Chino Monkey, Mangrove Tour where we will take a covered boat ride through the mangrove forest. You will have an opportunity (if you so choose) to experience an up close and personal encounter with Capuchin monkeys. 
We will stop for a buffet lunch before returning to Alajuela.

Monkey, Mangrove Tour

On our return trip back to Alajuela, we will stop for a Monkey, Mangrove Tour. Where we will take a boat through the mangroves and you will get an opportunity to have an up close and personal encounter with Capuchin monkeys. Feeding and holding the monkeys is optional.

Day 10 Alejuela

 

Breakfast will be served depending on your departure time and a free shuttle will carry you from the hotel to the Juan Santamaría International  (SJO) airport.
